About K.B.M. Machine Maintenance Ltd
KBM Machine Maintenance Limited was established in Hastings in1986. The business began trading on a modest scale servicing the hotel and hospitality industries.
Even during the formative years the Company invested heavily in equipment and staff, purchasing lathes, welding equipment, eventually building up a complete workshop. This has made us a leader in the wider Hawke's Bay, with KBM providing a unique service then and continuing today.
KBM recognised that machinery breakdowns were not only due to electrical machine failure but was for the most part mechanical failures.
Our staff training is paramount, keeping up with all the new equipment and brands we invest heavily, sending our technicians to training courses with the machine manufacturers. This has allowed our technicians to fully understand all aspects of the equipment they are servicing, whether it be electrical or mechanical in nature.
Inventive thinking and an above average service has seen KBM grow rapidly, with the growth being largely due to word of mouth amongst our very important clients.
Following on from the Companies successful establishment within the food industry, KBM directed its efforts into the Commercial Laundry Industry, becoming service agents for ELECTROLUX and MAYTAG GOODER.
1996 saw KBM move locations to Ford Road, Onekawa Napier, moving to much larger and brighter premises. Gaining valuable staff and equipment and allowing a further reorganisation of our services and facilities. Stainless steel welding repairs and manufacturing was born. The coffee industry was moving fast, espresso machines were appearing everywhere. A dedicated department for the servicing of Coffee/Espresso & Vending machines was established.
The largest manufacturers and importers of Hospitality/Laundry in New Zealand recognised the service and skills that our company has to offer and made KBM their sole or preferred service providers.
Along with Companies such as; Moffat, Burns & Ferrall, Electrolux, Taylor/Atech, Frosty Boy, Washtech, Freshfoods, Burton Hollis, Douwe Egberts, Global Food Equipment and more.
These companies only sell the best and wanted the best possible service team maintaining their equipment. This is where the KBM motto was born "The best at what we do".
With the introduction of Preventative Maintenance procedures, Managing Director, Kevin Bignold, had to work out a check list for over four hundred types of equipment from Shrink Wrappers to Genesis Bread Making Plants. The initial setup of this took one year to develop. These check sheets are now being used by suppliers around the country.
The capital works programme has continued, with KBM becoming Masters Electricians ME in 2005.
Customer demand dictated that KBM be able to offer a better all round and more comprehensive service in the hospitality industry so refrigeration repair and servicing was also introduced.
In 2006 KBM realised the business was expanding and growing out of its current building, so the hunt began for a site that would better service our requirements. In December 2006 the Erickson's building on Wakefield Street in Onekawa was found for sale and a purchase was made. The proceeding three months were interesting to say the least but with thanks to all of the KBM staff we managed to carry on providing an important service to our valued clients, in addition to customising the new premises.
KBM have also built up a large array of loan equipment for clients where available, our loan equipment includes a number of different types of machinery from Peelers to Dishwashers. With the introduction of the loan equipment department KBM can eliminate the frustration of going weeks without vital pieces of equipment, whilst replacement parts are on order.
Trucking companies were letting us down with pick up times and delivery of large equipment for workshop repair was, to say the least, slack. So we invested in our own truck, complete with tail lifter. This meant that we could structure the times for repair better with less down time and get the equipment back in action faster.
KBM have built a business based on quality service providing, we strive for excellence and invite all of our clients to visit us and come and see what we do.
